Al's First Year: Chapter 1 by ~Snevans95:iconSnevans95:

Al’s First Year: Chapter One
Note: Majority of the characters and plot lines were taken from the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. There are tons of spoilers. If you haven’t read the book, go away from this page. This is from Al’s point of view. Additionally, read the chapter before this before this one. The link is in the artist’s comment.

Al was standing by the window, waving to his parents, and watching Lily chase after the train as it left the station. The Hogwarts Express rounded the bend and he could no longer see his family. He signed, but inside, he knew he was ready for Hogwarts.
“Come on,” Rose Weasley told him. “If we don’t hurry, then all the compartments will be taken.” As the child of Ron and Hermione who inherited her mother’s brains, Al believed her and started to look for an empty one, dragging their trunks and cages behind them.
Near the end of the train, there was an empty compartment, which the two hurried into gratefully. Along the way, everyone stared at the two. Albus and Rose lifted their trunks into place and let out their pets. Tiger, Rose’s kitten, curled up in an empty seat while Al wrote a letter:
Dear Mum and Dad,
I haven’t gotten to Hogwarts yet, but on the train, people were staring as Rose and I looked for an empty compartment. Why? Did you save the world or something, dad? I’ll write back (hopefully knowing what house I’m in) when Pigwidgeon gets back from delivering this letter.
                                     Love,
                                           Al
P.S. How’s Lily?

He called down his owl, tied the letter on his leg, and let him out. As soon as Pigwidgeon, or Pig as James called him, soared out of sight, a girl in her Hogwarts robes opened the door. She had two brown braids falling down her back and soft brown eyes. She was also dragging a trunk and holding a cage.
“Can I sit here?” she asked timidly.
“Sure,” Al said, looking at Rose. She shrugged and gestured toward the empty seat, indicating she could sit there.
“Thanks,” the girl replied with a smile.
Together, the trio lifted her trunk next to Rose’s. Then, the newcomer opened her cage and a black kitten tumbled out.
“Oh, Midnight.” She sighed.
“Anyway,” she said to Al and Rose. “I’m Violet Wood. My dad is Oliver Wood. He played for Puddlemere United. My mum is Alicia Spinnet. They both played for the Gryffindor Quidditch team.”
“My name is-” Rose started, but the door opened again. A boy with silvery blond hair came in. Al recognized him as a Malfoy immediately. He gave a friendly smile and opened his mouth, but Rose cut him off.
“We know you’re Scorpius Malfoy,” she said pointedly. Al groaned. Rose was always doing that. He knew she was being rude to him because his dad was an archenemy of their parents when they were in school, but she hadn’t even given him a chance.
“If you know who I am, you must not have heard good things about me. People rarely say anything good about me.” Scorpius said sadly. “I was just going to ask whether I could sit here, but at this rate, you’d say no, just like everyone else on this train.”
Rose blushed and shook her head. “I’m sorry,” she said quickly. “I just though-well- never mind. Come on in and sit down.” He did so. Everyone stood up and put his trunk away so they’d have more room. Then, they continued the introductions.
“My name is Scorpius Malfoy,” he said. “I don’t like my family’s old beliefs and I don’t want to be a Slytherin. I want to change.” He smiled.
Scorpius, I’m Violet Wood,” Violet reintroduced herself. “Both my parents played for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. My dad, Oliver Wood, also played for Puddlemere United and my mum, Alicia Spinnet was a chaser.” The two shook hands.
Rose went next. “I’m Rose Weasley. My dad is an auror and my mum is in the department for the Magical Law Enforcement. His name is Ron Weasley and my mum is now known as Hermione Weasley, but her maiden name was Granger.” She shook hands with both Violet and Scorpius.
“My name is Albus Severus Potter-” Al started to say, but Scorpius interrupted in awe.
“You’re the child of Harry and Ginny Potter? Cool.” Scorpius was delighted to meet a Potter. Al made a note to tell his parents Scorpius thought it was cool that he was their son.
“I’m named after two Hogwarts headmasters and I know nothing about my dad’s past. I couldn’t find out from my parents or anyone else, for that matter. I planned on looking it up at Hogwarts. Would you all help?” he finished. Everyone agreed and shook hands. Then, they started to talk in a friendly way.
“So, how do they sort the first-years into houses, do you think? My family wouldn’t tell me.” Violet asked.
“My dad told me something about proving I’m a Slytherin to… something. I can’t quite remember. Whatever sorts me, I hope it puts me in you guys’ house.” Scorpius added to the discussion.
“My dad told me about a hat. He said it takes your wants and opinions into consideration.” Albus didn’t tell his new friends why his dad even told him. It’s not that he didn’t trust them, but it was personal.
“Of course, the Sorting Hat. It once belonged to Godric Gryffindor, who gave it the power to tell what house people belonged to after the founders left Hogwarts. When you wear it, it tells what house you belong in for the 7 years you’re at the school.” Rose was a fountain of information that had overflowed.
Everyone stared at her. She blushed and stopped giving out information like she had been doing.
“Have any of you even read Hogwarts, a History?” Rose asked. Al couldn’t help smiling as everyone else shook their head in unison. He remembered stories his dad told him and Rose sounded like Aunt Hermione in those tales when she said that.
“You sound just like Aunt Hermione, from what my dad told me about their childhood,” he said, still smiling. Violet put a hand over her mouth, just like Scorpius, but it was actually Rose who started giggling. She knocked over the first domino, and everyone burst into peals of laughter.
It was like that the entire trip, except when a boy came in. He took a glance at the group, looking long at Scorpius than anyone else, and said, “Hello Scorpius. My name is Norman Nott and we wanted you to sit with us.” Scorpius looked thoughtful and shook his head. Norman, who looked greatly angered, retorted, “Come on. You won’t have to sit with a bunch of bloodtraitor and the daughter of the filthy Mudblood Granger.”
At that, four wands were whipped out and were rapidly pointed at the boy. “Okay, I get it. I’m leaving!” he said and ran off.
“Did you guys actually know any spells? I didn’t know much more than Locomotor Mortis,” Violet told them.
Scorpius replied, “My dad taught me some dark spells and things like Expelliarmus and Petrificus Totalus.”
“From reading my mum’s old spellbooks, I know some spells up to a fifth year’s ability.” Rose added.
Al said, “My mum was good at Bat-Bogey Hexes and she taught me how to perform it. I also know plenty from my dad, since he’s an auror.”
“Can you just imagine Mott’s face if you actually hit him with a Bat-Bogey Hex?” Rose questioned, giggling. Once again, everyone laughed.
Soon, they were looking at a sunset in the mountains and the lamps were lit. First, the girls went out while the boys put on their robes rapidly and opened the door. Then, they switched places. Afterwards, they sat down and continued to talk.
When the train came to a stop, they got out with everyone else and looked around in the darkness.
“Where are we supposed to go?” Violet asked, peering into the gloom. Scorpius shrugged, and then jumped when a loud voice spoke up directly behind him and a beam of light hit their group.
“Firs’ years o’er here! Firs’ years come here! Blimey, it’s Al and Rose with a Malfoy,” he exclaimed. Scorpius yelped and leapt behind Violet.
“Hi, Hagrid!” Al and Rose chorused. They pointed out Violet and Scorpius and introduced them.
“This way to the boats! Firs’ years, this way!” Hagrid led the group of students to the shore, where the boats for four were floating. “Four to a boat! Everyone choose a boat an’ let’s go!”
At his words, everyone’s boats glided forward smoothly in the water. Al, Rose, Scorpius, and Violet were sitting together and looked with wonder at the castle looming about them.
“Duck!” shouted Hagrid as they approached the rock. The boats traveled under a curtain of seaweed. It looked as if they were under the castle. When the boats stopped with a bump, everyone got out.
The half-giant knocked on a large door and it was opened by a wizard with dark blue robes on. He smiled cheerfully and said, “Thank you, Hagrid. I am Professor Longbottom, for those of you who don’t know me. I’ll be taking you to your sorting. The four houses are?” He picked Rose.
“Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin,” she said. Neville smiled at her.
“Very good. I see you’ve read Hogwarts, a History, just like your mother.” He looked around.
“I’ll go see if we’re ready for you. Please just wait here quietly. And… don’t worry if ghosts come. They swoop in here to get to the Great Hall every year. I remember when I was going to be sorted; they gave us a big shock. He smiled kindly at them and went back inside the Great Hall.
‘I heard only one person every year actually reads that book,” Violet teased. They all laughed and watched (without too much fear) as the ghosts flew through the Entrance Hall. They appeared to be arguing about something that sounded like Peeves.
“He’s the school poltergeist. I heard that every year, the ghosts have a council to decide whether they should kick him out,” Rose explained.
“What?” asked a dark-brown haired boy who look familiar. Before Rose could answer, however, Neville came back to lead the m into the Great Hall.

Chapter One is UP!!! I had to leave it off before the sorting. It's just a cliff-hanger (and I haven't gotten the next one planned out quite yet). I'm really bad at making up the songs so if anyone is willing, please tell me. As usual, constructive criticism please.
